- For Extracted Samples
For allergen extracts or extracts of food, we need a minimum of 0.5 mL, especially if testing for multiple allergens.
- For Food Samples
For food products, 1 gram is extracted in 10ml of 1X PBS 1M NaCl 2% Tween extraction buffer and the results are reported as ng or µg allergen per gram of food sample. We will need a minimum of 2 grams of each food sample.
If you are testing a sample just to identify the presence of a source ingredient, or if you are looking for contamination, a single allergen can generally be used as a marker. However, factors such as ingredient source and processing affect the allergen composition in food products, and testing more than one allergen will provide a more complete profile.
Food samples prior to extraction should be stored per manufacturer guidelines listed on the packaging. Food extracts should be stored frozen in a -20C freezer.
