Climate – Change!
InBio is committed to positive and sustainable environmental outcomes by adopting and improving green business practices. InBio’s company-wide initiatives have been successful in reducing carbon emissions, diverting lab waste and inspiring employees to continue sustainability practices outside of the workplace.
InBio works with local Virginia-based non-profit organizations, the Community Climate Collaborative and the Green Business Alliance, and with global initiatives like I2SL and My Green Lab who provide guidance and a platform to develop policies to reduce our carbon footprint and to share our successes.
Recently, InBio has received two awards highlighting local and international recognition of our sustainability programs. InBio is honored to receive these awards and is grateful for the acknowledgement from our green community.
Waste Reduction and Employee Initiatives Award
The International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories is a US-based non-profit that develops and promotes sustainability practices in academic and industry research laboratories. InBio was one of 12 award winners at the 2025 I2SL conference in Dallas, Texas in October as part of the Lab Programs and Initiatives Awards. InBio was recognized for its waste reduction initiatives and energy savings policies and for its Green Benefits program, which provides financial incentives for employees to support and encourage their sustainability efforts.
Although InBio is a microcosm of the larger institutional award winners and sponsors (AstraZeneca, Siemens, NIST, etc), it was reassuring to find out we are all tackling similar sustainability challenges with innovation and community spirit.

Business Innovation Award
InBio also received the Charlottesville-based Community Climate Collaborative Business Innovation Award for its green benefits program, which offers stipends for employees to implement energy-saving and sustainable choices in their own lives. In the three years since its launch, employees have used the program for everything from EVs, e-bikes, rain barrels, composting, community sourced agriculture, and more. To date, InBio has invested over $27,000 in these purchases, supporting a total investment in our planet of over $144,000!
